For more information, visit our website Job Description • Conducting social assessments, identifying the social support needs of patients/survivors, including legal, protection, shelter/housing, financial/vocational, food security, and access to medical and psychosocial support services beyond the project intervention scope. • Supporting the provision of comprehensive care to patients and their families, by actively coordinating their work with the other members of the MSF multidisciplinary team (eg. medical, MHPSS, HA) and linking with multi-sectoral services such as protection, safety, security, legal, justice, education, and livelihood. • Providing direct social support based on social assessments and facilitating referrals to evaluated external re-sources. Provide systematic follow up care regarding attendance of clinical appointments, and following up on referrals made to relevant multi-sectoral services aimed at improving the quality of life of patients/survivors. • Participating in the creation and maintenance of any material needed for the activities of social workers, including facilities and equipment in order to ensure continuity. • Mapping and regular updating of formal and informal support services (incl. existing community resources). Assess quality of existing support services, with identification of gaps and advocacy for an improved culturally appropriate social response. • Maintaining records, statistics, files, and reports on all social work activities and follow up care either provided by MSF or other support services. Identifying gaps in the available services and with the team prioritizing and developing plans following the objectives of MSF. MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities The role of social worker will support the activities in the community and in the MSF-supported clinic, where patients are referred from detention centres and from the community. The social worker will accompany the referral doctor to the clinic and will join the mobile clinic in the community and occasionally in detention centres. In the community: · Conduct assessment of patients going to MSF asking for protection services. Explain clearly to patients who do not fit our criteria the role of MSF, if possible give them information on how they can access services by themselves. For patients fitting the MSF protection referral criteria, gather all relevant information and make sure to take consent. Fill out the referral form for each patient and send to HAO. · Get information from patients to understand their situation: length of stay in Tripoli, housing situation, issues to access healthcare. · Support with identifying accommodation solutions for patients who will be discharged from the clinic, and follow up in the community where necessary. · Provide information to patients about external services and contribute to the service mapping. · Take the testimony of patients who approach MSF in order to share their story, or who mention having been subjected to violence in a DC or during an interception at sea/disembarkation. · In coordination with the health promoters, facilitate the access to documentation of patients needing to access public health facilities, and in particular TB treatment at Abusetta hospital. · Support HA department by maintaining contact with community leaders, reach out to grassroots organisations and Libyan civil society to expand the MSF network and options for referral of patients with regards to the above mentioned services. In the clinic: · Gather background information regarding patients in close collaboration with the referral doctor. · Screen patients for protection needs and identify exit plans. Write comprehensive summaries of the situation of the patients and tailor our approach to their needs. Prepare patients for their discharge, especially patients from detention centres. · Hold protection interviews with vulnerable patients and make referrals to the relevant agencies. Facilitate the visits of external service providers to patients – including IOM, UNHCR, embassies, etc. · Report to the Humanitarian Affairs department all violations of human rights that are reported to you by patients. · Occasionally, visit detention centres to follow up on specific patients and support HA Assist, if needed and feasible. Please note that this list is indicative of the key responsibilities of this role but is by no means exhaustive.
